Mission |
As an engineering program at George Fox University, our mission is to prepare technically competent and broadly educated engineers for a life of responsible service emerging from a Christian worldview.
Program Educational Objectives
The mission of the Engineering Program contains three primary elements: technical competency, breadth of education, and responsible service emerging from a Christian worldview.
- GFU Engineers will be technically competent, able to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems and design systems, components, and processes.
- GFU Engineers will have a broad education, able to exercise a breadth of perspective in understanding concepts, communicate effectively, and team with others.
- GFU Engineers will understand responsible service from a Christian worldview, that emphasizes integrity in every aspect of this service, motivates individuals to a life of responsible service to humankind, and recognizes the need for a life of continued learning.
Program Outcomes
The GFU Engineering Program graduates will have:
- an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and the engineering sciences for effective engineering problem solving.
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems using fundamental principles.
- an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice to develop responsible technologies.
- an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data to extract meaning.
- an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs.
- an ability to serve on multi-disciplinary teams.
- exposure to the industry and engineering practice.
- an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility from a Christian worldview.
- an ability to communicate truthfully and effectively.
- the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global and social context including an understanding of Christian stewardship of resources.
